without a father in the home. While we often discuss the economic and social fallout of this crisis, we
rarely talk about the spiritual vacuum it leaves behind. Our earthly fathers are meant to be the primary
“template” for our understanding of authority and protection. When that template is broken, missing, or
abusive, our “God-concept” is severely compromised. How do you trust a “Heavenly Father” when the
earthly version was never there to catch you?
The Shift: If you grew up in a father-absent home, your journey to God requires a “re-parenting” of the
soul. You must allow God to fill the gaps that your earthly father left behind. This means stopping the
search for God in the faces of the men who let you down and starting to look for Him in His own words: as
a “Father to the fatherless.” Your deficit does not define His character.
